The horse in this picture was drawn for commission. I was given three photos from my aunt who had contact with someone that wanted these photos artistically depicted. I unfortunately never met the owner of the horses nor the horses themselves since they lived in Oregon and I was in Texas at the time. But the photos were good enough to draw from so I went eagerly to work. The three art pieces from the three photos are “Free to Roam”, “Portrait of Indy”, and “Greetings”. Each was in a different style and medium and all came out well. These were the first horses I had drawn as professionally finished pieces and it was the beginning of my love for drawing horses. Free to Roam was done in pastel and Prismacolor colored pencils on Strathmore pastel paper.
