This is one of the first pieces I drew with Nupastels. I was excited about the way the pastels could be used for detail. And I liked the way the hard strokes looked like paint strokes. I eagerly went to work on this project and the more I progressed, the more I loved it. This is one of the few pieces where I am really satisfied with the results. I drew the birds and their nest from life and from photographic studies at the San Antonio Zoo while the rest of the background was drawn from my imagination. Although the background is simple, it somehow brings the quality of the peace and the quiet of the storks marshy home.
