I began to volunteer at this wildlife place in Kansas called Operation WildLife (OWL) and I realized that as much as I love owls, I have never drawn one. So I did some research and several preliminary sketches and came up with this piece. (This piece was not drawn from one of the owls at the facility. Since the facility is dedicated to rehabilitation, photos of the animals in their care is not allowed.) The feathers of the owl were difficult to duplicate but I had an even more difficult time with the background. The first background was very distracting. The second background matched the pattern of the owl too much. Luckily, the Nupastels on the rough Art Spectrum paper made it easy to fix. The current background is not too distracting and does not hide the owl.
