I love color and I love animals. Birds can be colorful animals. Herons in particular have some interesting colors. There is the blue heron, the purple heron, and even a green-backed heron. I’ve only seen the heron in the wild a few times and each time I am struck with a feeling of awe. They are so elegant and graceful. They also tend to be elusive so this particular heron was drawn from a heron I observed at the zoo. The pastel sunset background and pastel water was all drawn from my imagination while the heron was drawn from my various sketches and various photographic studies of detail. It was drawn with pastels on Strathmore pastel paper.
